Up In The Clouds!! PDF Print E-mail

This year I was celebrating my birthday in South Africa of all places!! I was determined to make it a birthday to remember, and so me and my friend Gemma (who had flown all the way out from the UK to see me) booked a hot air balloon ride for that morning!!

We were so excited; it was forecast to be a sunny but misty morning, and at 4am we drove to Suncatchers lodge to meet our pilot, Wynand there! As we arrived, we saw a huge colourful balloon being inflated, and we enjoyed a cup of coffee and rusks as they went through the safety checks.

At sunrise we were just climbing aboard the hot air balloon; into a padded, comfortable basket that reached just past my waist. It was surprisingly sturdy, and the pilot went through a safety-briefing and landing instructions before turning on the burner and filling the balloon with gas!

Shooting Range PDF Print E-mail

Aim for your target… Load the rifle… Unlock the trigger… Pull the trigger… BAM!
That was the main lesson, when Glen taught us how to shoot a rifle.

We were at the shooting range in Jejane, with a distance of 75 meters between us and the target. After that Glen explained us how a rifle works, how the parts of the rifle are named and how to aim it, he showed us how to shoot. After his example we could try it.

My first shot did hit the target so that it would have died, were it an animal, but not immediately. After we all tried the rifle, we went to the targets to look at our shooting-skills. Not only me, but all of the students did hit the target! Awesome!

Mountain Hike! PDF Print E-mail
Students - Student Articles & Feedback
Written by Karin (Netherlands)

Today we went to the mountains for the Manoutsa hike. The surroundings was amazing with all the giant trees and beautiful waterfalls. At one point we got the feeling that we arrived on the edge of the world. Under us a waterfall fell down into the deep and we were standing right on top. To get to the bottom we had to go through a cave and even with my flashlight I could hardly see anything. I was so happy to see the daylight again!
At the end a couple of people were brave enough to jump from a high rock into the water.
The hike was amazing and we had so much fun!

On Top Of The World! PDF Print E-mail

Written by Cheynne (South Africa)

Today we went to Marieskop. Me, Anna, David and Jaco.
It was a magnificent sight weaving throught the dirt roads on the back of the backie with giant green trees creating a wonderland around and over us.
As we winded up the mountain we ventured further and further away from our familiar world.
Once we reached the top, we stood in awe. The entire world below had become simply tiny squares and circles of land. Lakes were puddles and roads were shoe strings. We walked out onto the rocks proturding from the mountain and found ourselves standing on the edge of the universe; our breath taken away.
The rest of the day was spent exploring and trying to spot all the places we knew in the tiny landscape below. All in all, it was truly an extraordinary and humbling experience!

Today we went to the Olifants River for a boat trip, together with friends and students from Campfire Safaris.
From the boat we saw elephants, dassies, vervet monkeys, buffalo, waterbuck, crocodile and lots more on the shore!
There were also about 10 hippo's in the water! It was amazing! Hippo's everywhere!
During the boat trip we had a braai on board which was delicious and a lot of fun.
When we left the boat, and drove off in the car we saw lions lying in the grass on the side of the road! Today was awesome :-D

African Dream's Graded Show! PDF Print E-mail
Students - Student Articles & Feedback
Written by Anna

This weekend we held a graded showjumping show at the Wildlife Equestrian Centre, and it was a huge success!
Riders from all over the province came to compete; a wonderful mix of people, all having fun and laughs whilst earning their graded points in their classes.

All our dutch students competed; Lieke (on Electa), Charlotte (Bafana Bafana), Patty (Solar Flare), and Karin (Yakima) jumped 60 and 70cm, and Cheynne, our visitor from Jo'burg, rode Dave The Rave At 50cm!

All of them did brilliantly; picking up rosettes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places over the 2 days, and we are so proud of both riders and horses.
