Conduct a guided horse trail riding experience

The learner achieving this unit standard will be able to;

    1. conduct a guided horse trail riding experience as a lead guide
    2. extend the range of guided experience available to clients who wish to cover sufficient terrain beyond what can be accessed on foot

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:

    1. Understand and discharge the general leadership responsibilities of a lead horse trail guide
    2. Demonstrate the ability to ride a horse at a strong intermediate skill level and to assist clients in horseback skills
    3. Handle a group of horses from the ground in a safe, controlled and sympathetic manner that benefits horses and riders
    4. Demonstrate an understanding of horse care
    5. Know and understand horse yard and equipment management
    6. Assist clients to mount and dismount and adjust or change tack
