A 20 minute drive from Hoedspruit takes you to the base of the rugged Drakensburg Mountains below the Blyde dam wall. There one begins a 15 minute hike through indigenous forest before reaching the first of three waterfalls.

Here one can simply relax in beautiful surroundings, or jump off the rocks and swim in the pool below the falls. For those with more energy, hiking up stream reveals two more waterfalls.

Manoutsa Hike PDF Print E-mail

Following a trip up the mountain via the J.G Strydom tunnel, the trail starts with a short but steep descent and proceeds along a gushing stream. The stream has deposited large amounts of Tufa over time, which has produced amazing caves and rock formations.

Due to the steep gradient the route requires hikers to make use of several ladders and to negotiate several river crossings. On your way down, the trail descends through bat caves and cascading waterfalls where one can jump off into clear pools. There are a number of swimming opportunities along the route.

The hike ends walking through the village where the local children run to meet you with big smiles and excitement!
